Check your diaper bag: Target is voluntarily recalling two varieties of its Up & Up baby wipes due to potential bacterial contamination. The recall follows customer complaints about product discoloration, which led to testing that identified the presence of Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli in product samples, according to the FDA. The affected wipes are Up & Up Fragrance Free Baby Wipes and Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes.

Key Takeaways
  • Target is recalling Up & Up Fragrance Free and Fresh and Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes due to potential bacterial contamination.
  • The recalled wipes are packaged in 20-, 72-, and 100-count wipe packs. Fragrance Free and Fresh wipes were manufactured from early November 2025 and to early May 2026. Cucumber scented wipes were manufactured on certain days in December 2025.
  • Consumers are being advised to stop using the recalled wipes immediately and return them to Target for a full refund.

“Use of products contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioi may result in serious and life-threatening infections,” reads the FDA recall. The recall also states that these wipes are predominantly used on newborns, infants, and young children, who are “particularly vulnerable to opportunistic infection due to their immature immune systems.”

In healthy people, the FDA says use of the wipes on skin with minor lesions could more likely result in localized infections, but in immunocompromised individuals, newborns, infants, and young children, the infection is more likely to spread into the bloodstream, potentially leading to health issues such as life-threatening sepsis or pneumonia.
