Kasane gateway to Chobe National Park is located on the borders of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia and Botswana and along the Zambezi and Chobe Rivers. It’s a hopping place with lots of tourist activities and shops. We were able to complete the provisioning of food, water, and alcohol here, as there are a few grocery and bottle stores available. We are lovers of biltong and unfortunately it was very difficult to come by in Botswana as were boerwors.
Although we did debate how much water we needed. Cheri wanting the most and other thinking she was nuts. In the end, we had the exact right amount, finishing the last jug at noon on the last day in the bush!
We stayed at a campground on the river at the Big 5 Toro Lodge (http://bigfivelodge.com/). We had our own ablution block which was very nice. The camp site is away from the river so there was no threat of hippos walking through camp.
Setting up camp the first night is always a learning process. And yet, it was pretty nifty to have our tent right on top of the trailer. Not only was it a sleeping place, but it had a huge vestibule for for changing clothes and even had enough room for a potty chair. Obviously, a potty chair helps to make sure that predators don’t eat you!!
The lodge offers a variety of tours including game drives and boat rides on the Chobe. Even though you must have a valid park entrance for the day in order to participate, one is easily arranged. You can pay at that time. Kasane gateway to Chobe, makes it a quick ride to where the boat is kept should you choose to enjoy a sunset cruise. Our guide was Josiah, who is excellent! Be sure to ask for him if you go here.
