A magic night on the Chobe River

magic night in Chobe
Time to swim back to Botswana?

There is nothing like a magic night in Chobe National Park, and especially on the river! We have enjoyed boat rides here nearly every time we’ve visited this area. In a word, it’s magic every time! No matter whether you come for a day cruise or a sunset cruise, it’s magical.

The animals roam freely from one side of the river to the other even though people cannot. One side belongs to Namibia and the other to Botswana, none the less, the animals do their thing and we enjoy them!

If you plan to take a cruise, look for one that hosts 10-15 people instead of 40 people. It’s much more enjoyable and the guides are often more interested in showing you unique things with smaller groups. We loved our guide, Jo. You also get to know the other passengers a bit and can often find some incredible people!

On this trip, John challenged one of the other travelers to a photo contest. He wanted to know if the guy could get a reflection of himself in the eye of a Nile Crocodile.

So, I took the challenge too and here is the result! That is us on the left side of the eye. You can see the boat and two people! Way cool!! Another example of why this was a magic night in Chobe!

In a boat its super easy to get close to animals that would otherwise simply be too dangerous to be near. This elephant was completely at ease with us.

Another pair that allowed us in close was this mating pair of fish eagles!
