The next day refreshed and ready for more adventure, we said our goodbyes to Gombwe Guest House and wished the owner well in her journey. We had asked about the Nata Bird Sanctuary (https://nataconservationtrust.org.bw/) the night before at The Lodge. They were running all kind of tours into the park and recommended it. We decided to check it out.
It is the only protected reserve in the northeastern periphery of Sowa Pan in the Makgadikgadi Basin (https://www.saltworkconsultants.com/sua-pan-botswana.html). It was August, one of the driest months of the year. Not surprisingly, no flamingos were in residence and there were only a few birds and not much game. We climbed the viewing stand and enjoyed the water fowl that was there. It looked like a great place to be in wetter times.
We did see two ostriches, a male and female mated pair, roaming together. There was also a small herd of wildebeest, otherwise known as the Blue Gnu.
After an hour or two, we decided to get back on the road to Kasane.
